What is CRC?

The Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) is being implemented by the Government to help the UK to minimise carbon emissions and will start to impact financially on Businesses from January 2010, although reporting procedures must be completed by March 2009. CRC will affect most organisations with a half hourly electricity usage of above 6 million units per annum (in the region of £400,000). At the start of each year organisations will be required to purchase allowances of carbon that they expect to emit (estimated to be around 10% of your total annual energy expenditure) and at year end a CRC league table will be published into the public domain. Carbon Allowances will be refunded based on ranking within the league table with poor performers penalised. Importantly sites with a Climate Change Agreement will be exempt from CRC.
